Organic-Inorganic Perovskites

Perovskite solar cells

Organo-metal trihalogenide perovskites have outstanding properties and are interesting for optoelectronics and photovoltaics. Perovskite solar cells have seen rapid advancement in recent years and matured into serious competitors of established solar cell technologies. Under laboratory conditions, efficiencies of more than 20% can already be achieved. Regarding industrialization, the main challenges at the moment are to develop a manufacturing technology for large-area modules and to find alternative materials to lead iodide used so far. These challenges are the technological and scientific focus of our perovskite activities. In cooperation with our partner AIXTRON SE / APEVA SE, we are working on the development of tools and evaporation sources for chemical vapor phase deposition (CVD) of perovskites. In addition to the study of unleaded alternatives (e.g. on the basis of tin or bismuth), novel heterostructures are also part of current research.
